This windmill doesn't work. It hasn't worked for years. But it still stands there on top of Oia like it owns the place.

And that blue bell? That blue is not paint. That's 10 layers of paint. Every year they paint it again. That exact blue you see only in Oia.

I was working in Athens then. Early ferry, 7am, to catch it empty. At 9:14am no people. Just windmill, blue bell, white rocks, and that deep blue sky that looks fake but isn't.

Everybody shoots this spot at sunset. I shot it at 9am. Empty. Because empty Santorini is the real Santorini.

Now it's on a suitcase. For the early risers. For the ones who know that the best photo is before the crowds.
